Filing For Office 

Filing Period - June 3 - 12, 2020 

NOTE:  June 2nd is the LAST day any registered voter can change their party affiliation before the State Primary Election (September 8, 2020), and it the LAST day that any person who wishes to file as a candidate can register to vote -- you must be a registered voter of the party you wish to file for in the town where you are domiciled.  The Supervisors of the Checklist are required to meet on June 2nd between the hours of 7 - 7:30 p.m.   For this year only, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, voters are allowed to complete a change of party registration form and mail it to the clerk of your town so that it is received no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 2nd.  The clerk will forward any change of party registration forms to the supervisors to act on at their meeting.  Please check with your Town or City Clerk's Office (or check your town or city website or local newspaper) for the place and time of the supervisors session. Declarations of Candidacy - for any person filing as a democratic or republican party candidate for the State Primary Election.  All candidates must file a Declaration of Candidacy, a Statement of Financial Interests (RSA 15-A) and pay the administrative assessment fee OR file the required number of primary petitions as indicated below - RSA 655:19-c. 

File with Secretary of State:
Governor or U.S. Senator | $100 or 200 primary petitions
Representative in Congress | $50 or 100 primary petitions
Executive Councilor | $25 or 50 primary petitions
State Senator | $10 or 20 primary petitions
County Officer | $10 or 50 primary petitions

File with Town or City Clerk's Office:
State Representative | $2 or 5 primary petitions
Delegate to the Republican State Convention | no fee and no petitions
 


Declarations of Intent - for individuals who intend to be a candidate in the general election from a political organization and for political organizations who wish to have the names of their candidates placed on the general election ballot - RSA 665:17-a, 17-c, 40-45.  All candidates must file a Declaration of Intent, a Statement of Financial Interests (RSA 15-A) and pay the administration assessment fee during the June 3 - 12, 2020 filing period AND file the required nomination papers as indicated below. File with Secretary of State:
President of the United States | $250 AND 3,000 nomination papers*
Governor or U.S. Senator | $100 AND 3,000 nomination papers*
Representative in Congress | $50 AND 1,500  nomination papers
Executive Councilor | $25 AND 750 nomination papers
State Senator | $10 AND 750 nomination papers
County Officer | $10 AND 150 nomination papers
State Representative | $2 AND 150 nomination papers
Political Organization | no fee - 17,406 nomination papers
*1,500 from each congressional district.  Nomination papers for all other offices must be signed by registered voters from the respective district.  All nomination papers must be signed in the year of the election - 2020.
 

Filing Deadlines for Nomination Papers:
August 5, 2020 - Last day to submit signed nomination papers to Supervisors of the Checklist in town or city.
August 26, 2020 - Supervisors must have nomination papers certified for candidates and organizations.
September 2, 2020 - Last day to file certified nomination papers with Secretary of State's Office
